Certified organic sateen. Hand-dyed with fiber reactive dyes and low immersion techniques to minimize the environmental impact of the process. All effluent is neutralized and put on a special garden area where Julie Mullin and her husband (the owners of Fiberactive Organics) grow clover for their rabbits.
The napkins are hand-cut and hand-sewn in Apex, North Carolina, by Montagnard women who came to America as refugees from the mountains of Vietnam. Julie allows the women to work on a one-day-at-a-time basis, only when they are not needed at home with their families. She provides the necessary tools so they can work from home if they choose. The women receive good wages, free transportation, on-site free child care and lots of on-the-job training. Julie also provides lessons in English, reading, nutrition and many other things the women need to know in order to get along in a technically advanced society. Julie also accompanies the women and children on any medical visits in order to "translate". To provide her women more work, Fiberactive also does cut-and-sew for other organic companies. Julie's goal is to provide each of them with health insurance and teach them to drive.
Fiberactive is a family business.
